If One is Good, Are Two Better? How to Get More by Joining More Than One Chamber of Commerce
We’ve already discovered that joining the local chamber of commerce is a good idea. Does that mean that two are better? Yes it does. The world is shrinking and chances are yours is too. We are able to penetrate markets easily and quickly with the use of technology. But being referred by a trusted friend or colleague is the fastest, most effective and efficient way to build business. With the speed at which we can do business these days it makes sense to be part of a couple of chambers to maximize referral and lead generation.
You should strongly consider joining each chamber of commerce that serves the area in which your business does business. However, unlike the past, joining because it is the right thing to do no longer applies. Of course your local chamber needs your membership dues to continue their good work and you may wish to support their efforts. This is a valid reason to join any chamber. For many this reason alone makes chamber membership valuable.
However, most businesses join chambers with the intention of growing their business through membership. You or a member of your staff must be involved and attending regularly for this to happen. If you join to grow your business and don’t have a plan to participate, it is unlikely that you will get a satisfactory return on your investment and you will not renew the following year. This is a loss for you and the chamber.
It is important to note that the chamber of commerce is the best place in any locale in which to do business. It is the one place where business people congregate to discuss and do business. Therefore, I recommend that you join the chamber of commerce in each of your key service locations provided you or your staff can get involved and participate regularly. If you live in a large metropolitan area that may mean several chambers. Visit each one and determine based upon the services they provide and the contacts you stand to make which ones are right for you.
Many successful business people rely on the chamber of commerce as their sole source of marketing, referrals, and lead generation. You can too. Join the chamber in your town today and get involved. You and your business will grow as a result.
